However after the release of the music video, the song reached top position of the billboard hot 100, and reached number 2 in the UK and USA charts. The music video mixes animation and real time video, it took 16 weeks to complete the music video, compared to the average time of music video 2 weeks, and uses around 1400 drawings. This was their only song to reach the billboard hot 100, this may be due to the large attention that the music video gained, for being new and innovative.
Sinead O Connor - Nothing Compares To U
This song was originally sung by the singer 'prince', this cover featuring Sinead O Connor was released in 1990 and won 3 MTV video music awards later that year. Originally, the director of this video had a £40000 budget to film the music video in and around paris, however after seeing Sinead O Connor's performance in the video he had cut the majority of the paris scenes out. Sinead O Connor felt especially connected to the song as her mother had died recently, which is why she can be seen crying at some points in the song. The director frequently uses close ups so that the expressions on Sinead O Connor's face can be seen more clearly, so that it gives a more emotional impact to the song.
